A student would need to use Course Reserves when his/her professor puts course materials aside for members of the class to use.  These materials can be the professor's personal copies or books, or they can be library-owned items.  The professor decides whether the students must use the items in-house or will be able to check them out for a limited time.  Some of the course reserves are online and can be accessed and viewed from off-campus.
