As you already know, the library DOES have access to, or owns, everything that can be found in the catalog.  Unfortunately, with databases, this is not the case.  When you are using a database, you will notice that there are articles that will include the full text.  Other articles will only have the citation information or abstract available.  For those articles with only citation information, you must click on the button/link in order to be sure we don't have the article full text in another database or in print. 

After checking to see if the article is not in another database or not available in print through our periodicals,  you can use InterLibrary Loan (ILL) to receive an article, book, DVD or other items that the FIU Libraries do not own by requesting that we get it through another institution.
